Benjamin Humphreys, MD, PhD, Joseph Friedman Professor of Renal Diseases in Medicine and Chief, Division of Nephrology, has been invited to join the NIDDK Board of Scientific Counselors (BSC).
Made up of accomplished senior researchers from NIDDK-funded universities and institutions, the BSC review panel evaluates independently resourced scientists in the NIDDK Intramural Research Program (IRP). Review of the intramural scientists assists the Scientific Director of the IRP in refining the structure of the program and advances in the field.
NIDDK, the fifth largest of the 27 NIH institutes, conducts biomedical research and training at its laboratories and clinical facilities in Bethesda, Maryland, and Phoenix, Arizona. Its work encompasses diabetes, endocrine and metabolic diseases (including liver disease and nutrition), obesity, kidney, urologic, and hematologic diseases.
Many of the scientists within NIDDK IRP are internationally recognized, highly productive, innovative researchers. Numerous trainees have become prominent faculty members at leading universities throughout the world, and several have received Nobel prizes and other prestigious awards.
