Dr. Shiyuan Liu joins the Department of Medicine

Shiyuan Liu, MD

Dr. Shiyuan Anabeth Liu joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as an Instructor in June 2021. She was born in northeastern China and moved to western Massachusetts when she was nine. She attended Dartmouth College and graduated magna cum laude with Honors in neuroscience in 2014. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She went on to attend the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. During her time there, she actively engaged in activities to improve community health, including serving as volunteer coordinator of an annual community health fair in East Harlem, overseeing community hepatitis screenings among underserved Asian populations in New York City, and caring for patients at Mount Sinai’s free health clinic. She also spent a summer pursuing research in the Caribbean to explore the potential role of clergy and alcohol servers in community alcohol intervention programs. She graduated with her doctorate in medicine degree in 2018 with a Distinction in Research. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Liu completed her internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital / Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis prior to joining the Division in 2021.

During residency, she presented a poster at the American College of Physicians chapter meeting in 2018 and is pursuing research in the field of breast cancer brain metastases as part of the Mentors in Medicine program. Her areas of particular interest in internal medicine lie in hematology, oncology and community health. Outside of medicine, she enjoys doing hot yoga, walking in the park, playing with her rambunctious puppy, and exploring ethnic cuisines.
