Monoclonal antibody and Evusheld therapies transition to normal operations

Paxlovid

Please consider the oral antiviral, Paxlovid, as a first choice for treatment for COVID-19 positive outpatients who are within 5 days of symptom onset and meet the criteria. You can find details on this and all other COVID treatments, including mAbs, at www.bjc.org/for-physicians/covid.

Monoclonal antibody treatments

As a second line treatment for high-risk outpatients within 7 days of symptom onset, BJC HealthCare and Washington University School of Medicine will shift administration of mAb treatment to select existing infusion centers and certain Emergency Departments. Please note that under standard operations, some facilities may have limitations on who can order or who can receive treatment based on state regulations or the hospital by-laws. Please see the list of locations below and details for eligibility and ordering can be found at www.bjc.org/for-physicians/mab

Evusheld

Evusheld is an important prophylactic therapy for certain eligible patients who are immunocompromised or for whom vaccination is unlikely to generate sufficient immunity. Currently many specialty practices, with the ability to properly store and handle the drug, are administering the drug in their clinics. We will continue to provide Evusheld for those clinics. For practices who are unable to offer it in-clinic, Evusheld can be ordered through Epic for administration at the following infusion centers. Information can be found at www.bjc.org/for-physicians/evusheld.

  • Alton Memorial Hospital Infusion Center
  • Memorial Hospital Belleville Multiservice Center
  • Missouri Baptist Medical Center Cancer Infusion Center
  • MS Infusion Center at Missouri Baptist Medical Center (located in building B)
  • Sunset Hills Outpatient Center
  • Parkland Health Center Infusion Center
  • Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Infusion Center
  • St. Louis Children’s Hospital Infusion Centers

Luckily, the emergency waivers are expiring at a time when the COVID-19 cases in our region are at very low rates, which will hopefully allow for a smooth transition. Should we experience a significant surge in the future, we are prepared to adjust operations to meet the needs of our community in a manner that is compliant with the regulations at the time.

In administering these therapies, BJC HealthCare and Washington University have played a critical role in caring for our community. In the 17 months since we opened our first mAb clinic, we have collectively treated more than 8,500 patients, the most in the region. By offering the latest treatments, together we were able to prevent hospitalization for many of our high-risk patients. We are pleased that we can continue to offer these treatments as part of our normal operations.
