Baranski receives grant for research on estrogen use in transgender females

On March 22, the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences announced the 2022-2023 Clinical and Translational Research Funding Program awardees. Thomas J. Baranski, MD, PhD was selected, receiving funding for research titled, “Effectiveness, Safety, and Tolerability of Different Estradiol Dosing Regimens in Transgender Female.” 

Dr. Baranski’s research acknowledges the importance of gender affirming hormone therapy as “a critical step in achieving feminine features consistent with gender identity in transition-age (18-45 years) transgender females.” The project aims to not only evaluate estrogen use in transgender females, but to study “the degree of testosterone suppression achieved in this population when randomized to two different dosing regimens.”
