WashU Nephrology congratulates Steven Cheng, MD, Professor of Medicine, who was presented with a Distinguished Educator Midcareer Award from the American Society of Nephrology (ASN). The award was presented at the ASN Kidney Week annual meeting on November 06, 2022.
ASN’s Midcareer Awards recognizes clinicians, educators, health professional leaders and mentors, and researchers who have at least 10 years of experience after completing nephrology training. The Distinguished Educator Award was awarded to Dr. Cheng and to Matthew A. Sparks, MD, FASN, Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine.
“This was only possible with an incredibly supportive division, a great division chief, and phenomenal colleagues and collaborators!” says Cheng. “It’s been such an honor to work with inspiring students, fellows, and colleagues through ASN and Washington University School of Medicine. The future of nephrology looks amazingly bright!”
Cheng is a respected and valued teacher at WashU. He has also been a leader among nephrology training program directors (TPD) through his service as moderator for the ASN’s TPD Community, a member of the ASN Workforce and Training Committee, and chair of the Match Oversight Committee.
